The Malachite Medicinary is where the ancient tradition of East Asian herbalism meets the precision of individualized clinical care. Housed within Malachite Medicine, it is an on-site dispensary and a philosophy: that every formula should be compounded for a specific person, in response to what their body needs right now — not pulled from a shelf, not standardized, not generic.
The intention behind classical herbal medicine has always been to remind your body how to function optimally, and to give it the nourishment it needs to keep living well. That intention is what drives everything dispensed from this medicinary.
How it works

Your herbal care begins with a consultation — in-office or remotely. Our staff take a comprehensive intake, reads your pulse and tongue, and listens carefully to the ways your body is asking to come into greater balance.

From there, she composes a formula drawing on the classical canon — a foundational prescription refined across centuries, modified precisely to reflect your individual aspects of physiology and pathology. No two formulas are alike, even for patients with similar presentations.

Your formula is prepared from the medicinary in your preferred form: concentrated granules dissolved in warm water, raw herbs for decoction, capsules, or tincture. Whatever works best for your life — at home, or on the go.

As you move through treatment, your formula is revisited and adjusted — typically every 2–4 weeks — to reflect where your body is now. Herbalism is a living practice: always responsive, always moving toward the next layer of your healing.

East Asian herbalism has an extraordinary safety record when prescribed by a qualified practitioner. Melinda takes a thorough medication and supplement history at intake and reviews every formula for potential interactions. Please bring a complete list of anything you are taking to your first appointment.
CAN I WORK WITH THE MEDICINARY WITHOUT DOING ACUPUNCTURE?
Yes. Standalone herbal consultations are available in-office and remotely. Herbalism is a complete system of medicine in its own right. Many patients find that combining acupuncture and herbs deepens and accelerates their progress significantly.
HOW LONG DOES A COURSE OF HERBAL TREATMENT TAKE?
Acute conditions may resolve in days to a couple of weeks. Chronic and complex pathology typically requires a more sustained course — often 2–6 months — with meaningful improvement usually evident within the first 2–6 weeks. Your body will surprise you with its desire to heal and healing.
DO YOU SELL HERBS WITHOUT A CONSULTATION?
The medicinary is available exclusively to patients under our direct care. We do not sell herbs over the counter — responsible herbalism requires knowing the whole person. The Kingfisher tea blends are available for general wellness purchase.
ARE REMOTE CONSULTATIONS AS EFFECTIVE AS IN-PERSON?
For most conditions, yes. We conduct remote consultations via secure video and can gather the diagnostic information she needs through intake, tongue photos, and conversation. Formulas are dispensed and shipped from the medicinary. For patients who benefit from in-person pulse diagnosis, we recommend at least an initial in-office visit.
